Some of the caves were used a the final resting place. This is a cedar bent wood box.
This is a screen shot of my travels. Ignore the "Man Overboard." That's where I caught the salmon and I pushed the wrong buttons to mark the spot. The GPS readings are for Winter Harbor.
Driving back from Port Alice to Port McNeil, I went off the highway 6 km to Alice Lake. I launched and rinsed off.

I first went to Varney Bay and the mouth of the Marble River. Lots of caves on Vancouver Island, supposedly the largest concentration in North America.

This is where the highway to Port Alice crosses the Marble River. Years ago I kayaked down the river and then paddled to Coal Harbor to run the shuttle. Lots of caves along the river, some showing signs of human habitation.
