Forward Dock Lines, Snubbing and chafing

I know, just jazzing you. I hope you're off to other places and will stuff that old Penguin with more cool photos. Really enjoyed the lake Powell photos as that is on our list.

You're doing fine Colby. This conversation started a good bit ago, while you were doing a photo blast of the upper costal west. So initially I had posted some line of questioning on where I should mount the Drum Winch. I did decide I will put it exactly where the forward bow cleat is. Dr Bob...

Forward Dock Lines, Snubbing and chafing

Thank you everyone for discussing this subject and for giving me the confidence to move forward on this project. For most projects I can make up my own mind but this requires major changes and, my dread, holes drilled into Thistle's hull. I hate drilling new holes in an otherwise perfect boat...

Plus in addition to all your comments earlier in the thread Bob asked if I was using Spectra or Dynamo. I believe that the concern was not so much when anchored but rather during long term wet storage in a slip. With this scenario the dock lines might be adjusted so that the line passes more...

It's been 25 or more years since I picked up a mooring and it was at Keyport Yacht Club in Raritan Bay, NJ, from an Albin 29 sailboat. I can't for the life of me remember how it went. Do you always carry your own harness or do most harbors provide them? Do all morning balls have a clevis/shackle...

Thanks for al the answers. IMO these boats don't impress me as being the best choice a permanent mooring boats. No real reason they shouldn't be its just that they're pretty easy to put back onto the trailer. I guess I agree with Bob that the Item I was thinking of were called 1/4 round rub...

    Trial Run with Spouce

Foggy, I had a pressurized alcohol stove and it was cranky. Advised by other boaters not to use it on board I soon sold it. But the stove I have now is non-pressurized, easy and dependable, and cooks like a dream. I just have no Idea how much fuel it consumes. Thanks for the heads up.

Repair log - wet transom core

Cool and easy Idea for a funnel. I won't elaborate on a few I made as it was a long time ago and they worked terribly bad. I'm so glad you have documented this whole process well as it will serve so many owners going forward.

That is great advice. I'll check the extinguishers on board and make sure they're approved and if not I'll add the proper one to the kitchen area. Thanks.

Yes I agree. It is a two burner and I've been only adding a few ounces at a time and it completes my meal. I like cooking on these stoves.

Might I use these instead of chocks? RUB STRAKE HALF OVAL HOLLOW BACK STAINLESS STEEL (316)

So a quart may make it but two is a great hedge? thanks "I don’t remember ever running out of fuel. "

I'm looking into the chrome bars I'm seeing screwed to the gunnels on some boats in place of or in stead of the chocks.

If all goes well tomorrow the Dr will clear me for boating and other forms of life as we know it. If so Kim and I will be taking the boat to the Chesapeake for a cruise over the Fourth of July weekend. A few questions remain but this one about cooking aboard gives me pause. Our stove is a very...

Forward Dock Lines, Snubbing and chafing

The plans for my windlass installation is almost complete and I hope to begin work on it in July. There are still some questions. I know it seems you can't have enough attachment points on a boat. But do most of you use the single center front cleat every time you tie off at a dock? I haven't...
