Engine Corrosion and other fun things

The list goes on and on and I haven't even approached electronics yet. Thankful to the previous owners for leaving me with a pretty complete and dependable boat. Yesterday I installed the Bimini. Done! Today I will install a better spare tire carrier. I'll also replace the damaged rubber or...

    Bimini Strap Hooks

It's multiple stuff, internal stuff. a bad knee and some kidney stuff and diabetes that I'm finally facing. Starting to feel better but trying to put knee off until fall. The boat will be there. I am hoping to be at the Northern Chesapeake AGLCA Rendezvous next weekend. I'll be the guy in the...

    Bimini Strap Hooks

Yes we wanted to use it for a while until we can agree on a proper place to put the eye. You see we bought this cheap but very big bimini knowing we'd want all the shade we could muster. When we tried a few places that were inboard further we noticed that the top wobbled more and went crooked...

    Shallow water anchoring

In 1994 when I bought a 25' Sailboat I used old silk firehose that I got at the college I worked for. I was the assistant super and was in charge of switching out all the emergency fire hoses on campus. I wish I'd have kept it all. The Claw I have in use is slightly over sized (16.5) for my boat...

    Bimini Strap Hooks

We bought an inexpensive aluminum Bimini complete with junky plastic fittings from Carver. It is tall enough for me and nice to look at. We think it will serve us well for a period of time. We're in the middle of the install right now and can't decide where to put the front strap receivers...

    Shallow water anchoring

I have no fairleads on the boat yet. I also did not find any chafing gear. will look again. I was more worried about anchoring in too shallow of water and hitting bottom in every passing trough when a storm comes up... I'm building my anchor gear. Slowly. So far I only have 150' of 1/2" dbl...

    Shallow water anchoring

That is what I was worried about. I had been a large Carolina Skiff Owner and being a rank amateur I never worried about such things...didn't even know I should've been worried. But now, with the more nuanced hull shape I have begun to think about it more....what did I get away with all those...

    Shallow water anchoring

I supposedly draw 7-10" with motors up. Down near Hontoon I found a large pond off the St.Johns that was marked on Aquacharts as being only 1.9' deep. I noticed another C-Dory bobbing nicely at anchor there and so I lifted my motors and joined them. I watch two rocket launchings and had a great...

    Re-Bedding Fixtures and an Apology

The Bimini product I'm using did not come with backing plates and only roundhead wood screws came with it. Furthermore when I drilled the holes guess what? Yup, wood fiber came out. I thought for sure that this area had no core. But it did. Now I will over drill and fill with epoxy and then...

    Re-Bedding Fixtures and an Apology

I take it you did not overdrill, fill with epoxy and redial before you bedded? 30and again 35 years ago I used Lifecaulk, a polysulfide. It had idiosyncrasies and I was poor at accommodating them. Took forever to cure. I always made a mess of it though thankfully it was effective in waterproofing.

    Re-Bedding Fixtures and an Apology

Well there ya have it...60yrs is a long time as I'm only 66. I like 5200 and 4200 but I'm going to use (amazon just dropped it off) 4000 Fast cure UV. I had some experience on my Skiff that casued me to remove the mounts, I forget what and why, It was so easy as there was no bedding used on the...
