How hard can you be on a C-Dory

The best ride is with both trim tabs and the Permatrim. I have tried one boat without either, then the trim tabs and finally the Permatrim. You get the bow down into chop, and bow up going down waves and seas. As above, the Sea Ray has a moderate "V" and the C Dory a flat bottom aft, and less...

    Auxillary Kicker Question

I have used the 3.5 hp Mercury as a dinghy motor and "Kicker" for a C Dory 22. I have also used (and still use) the Suzuki 2.5 hp p 4 stroke outboard as a kicker on a 22 (and currenty on my 18' Caracal Cat). I also used it on the Tom Cat and CDory 25. These smaller kickers will give stearage...

    Make it shine.

You would be very hard pressed to measure the damage to gelcoat caused by using oxylic acid or bleach. Perhaps a bit more from toilet bowl cleaner. A friend used muriatic acid on my Tom Cat to remove some type of stain, and it permantly damaged the color of the dark green strite on the...

    Electric Heater

To run a 120 V AC heater would require at east a 1500 watt inverter (12V DC to 120 V AC). On low these heaters pull 800 to 1000 watts. (80 to 100 amps 12 V DC) At this level, you are looking at about an hour max for two group 27 batteries. A 12 volt 300 watt heater woud pull somewhere near...

    Make it shine.

The "industry standard" wax is Colinate paste Fleetwax 885. There are a number of major players, and some auto waxes--none compare to good dedicated marine products. Some like to use one system: 3M, Smooth, Chemical Guys, Nautical one, Strake, Starbrite, and a few others. I have tried...

    Make it shine.

If you want to know what the active ingredient is for a compound, look up the MSD (Material Safety Data) Sheet. For Starbrite Marine hull cleaner it is 11 pages. Here is the material: You can pay Starbrite, or you can buy the ingredient in bulk and save considerabe dollars. I don't agree...

    Tomcat self bailing issues

Sell these on line or to the factory, so they will be factory issue on all of the boats with scuppers.

    Ladder for CD-19 Angler

Any of the after market swim platforms with ladders can be used with trim tabs. the off set back is considerable. There are side boarding ladders which are not bulky, telescope and not obtrusive. But we prefer the swim step type. I have added both the factory and the after market to C Dory...

    Ladder for CD-19 Angler

In my opinion, the best ladder is a swim step with ladder built in. They have been bought from the factory, or they are an after maket accessory. Amazon has a number of swim platform, plus the ladder starting at $100. Be certain that the installation of the swim platform does not interfere...

    Getting Fuel Tank Tested

If you properly epoxy treat that tank, it may last 40 years. Good plan for the new tank.

    Make it shine.

The active ingredient of all of these is an acid. Oxylic acid works very well. Use the crystals and make a satuated solution. You can get a lifetime supply for $20 at most paint and hardware stores.

    Kicker motor fuel set-up

If your "kicker" is only for trolling, and you don't consider it a "Get home motor". then yes, you can run off the main tank. But as an emergency back up, the fuel, battery etc should all independant of the main engine. That redundancy allows start up and "go" in case of loss of the main...

    BayStar Maintenance Issue

The rebuild kits are even cheaper than having any component rebuit. There is no rocket science. The kit includes seals for the cylinder, plus tool necessary for pin wrench. The helm pump is aso reasonably simple to rebuild.

West Coast of Vancouver Island by trailer

We agree that the outside of Vancouver Island is a great trip. We did it in our Cal 46 before heading South to Florida, after 4 years in the PNW. The C Dory is a better vessel for this trip. A trip around Vancouver Island is a great adventure--lots of places to stop and explore, still off...

    Fuel tank swelling

If you use a canvas shade, then be sure there is adequate air flow under it. I tend to let my tanks like this vent to the athmosphere....better than a burst tank.

    Getting Fuel Tank Tested

To add to what Colby posted and in his reference posts, when that tank is out of the boat--which it should be if you are going to do a full "redo" of the tank. There may be pitting, and perhaps even thinning enough to have to replace the tank or the bottom of the tank. Another option is to...

    77’ Aluminum Yacht for $125k

I had that fantisy when I was looking for a sailboat in the mid 1960's with a budget of $15,000. I saw that Endemyon a 75' M Class sloop initially owned by Donald Douglas was for sale. She had been rerigged as a cutter, then Schooner and finaly a ketch. Coming back from a Tahati race she was...
