San Juan Hot Spots

This Friday, the 23rd, we are moving our boat from Anacortes to Friday Harbor. However, along the way we would like to visit a few places. If we moor at a marina, then it needs to be one that has a waterfront like Friday Harbor. Otherwise, I'd prefer to hook it in a protected harbor or park. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Ps. I looked into Lopez Village. They require a minimum 3 day moorage. They will allow us to use the transient dock for a few hours....$20 charge. Is it worth a visit?

Anacortes to Friday Harbor, :smilep That's about an hour and a half trip. If you've got the weekend You should make it worth while and spend the night some where. Two of my favorite parks are, Jones Is., or The Prevost side of Stuart Is.

Orcas Island is always fun to explore.

We docked here at East Sound and walked to town for breakfast. Five minute walk.

And I also like Olga - we stopped here for ice cream.

At night we stayed on Rosario - a bit too pricy in the summer - we stayed in April when overnighting was free.

I should re-name this thread to, "I get it."

I met some C-Brats Friday and Saturday and "get it" why "just be nice" is natural among this bunch. Thank you Bob Austin for the hour we spent. Thanks Nancy for letting me oogle over your Red Ranger. (BTW...ever wonder how they say Red Ranger in New England?)

We took a test drive on a Ranger with Jeff Gleckler and now "get it" why these are great boats. Also met Ranger Jeff. Really enjoyed the informative, no pressure discussions.

For the first time ever, we anchored Saturday night in a San Juan hidey-hole. A small notch called Guthrie Bay. We were the only boat among kazillion $$ homes. They have their view but ours is portable for a heck of lot less. Funny to see the transformation in my wife. She was apprehensive about no shorepower, no shops, but after an hour in this bay, she was hooked. Is the the spirit of El contagious??

Finally.....what weather!!! It rained in Portland and places south. We had glorious blue skies all weekend.

Tom,

Thanks for the info. and pictures. We visited Olga this morning but the store/bakery was closed and up for sale, so we headed to EastSound. Good stop. Had a nice breakfast at the Sunflower Cafe. My wife enjoyed the shops.

We skipped Rosario but stopped at Deer Harbor. That wasn't so pleasant. Gas was $4.79/gal., leaving me roughly $480 poorer.

But hey....sure beats a $150/nite hotel.
