"Great choice to stay at Mackinac state Park marina! You will get so much more out of the stay..." (Quote on Pat and Patty's loop blog)

AGREED!! We stayed a few days in Mackinaw City and on Mackinac Island the first week of June. Both were beautiful destinations that left us hoping we can return someday.

No motorized vehicles on the Island - like stepping back in time.

Path around Island to walk or rent bikes.
Elegant fine hotels and quaint B&B's
Horse carriage rides.
Fort Mackinac tour.
Tea room patio overlooking water.
Parks - rock climbing.
Interesting stores, ice cream shops and fudge makers.
Etc.,,,,,,,

In Mackinaw City they have the USCGC Mackinaw (WAGB-83) which is now a museum - interesting to tour.

I have added some pictures in my album for any interested brats.

Regards, Rob

Mackinac Island is indeed a great place to visit. However, their marina can be full many times without a reservation, and anchorages pretty much don't exist. Definitely worth the time there however. Bring a bicycle and you can get anywhere you want. Half the fun is just watching the horse wagons and drivers. You think backing your boat trailer up is hard, watch these guys/gals back their horse teams and wagons into narrow driveways! As for Mackinaw City, great place to visit too, with several marinas. The newer one, Straits marina, is quite nice. However Michigan legislated a new law several years ago that adds a relatively steep fee for out of staters using their facilities. (Including State parks and state marinas!) Plenty to do and see in both places! Colby

Colby, I found this quite interesting. Here in southwestern Ontario do you know how many tv commercials we are bombarded with paid for by Michigan. All of them touting the virtues of their parks and waterways. Is this some kind of tourist trap where they entice us to come then blast us with extra fees because we are from out of state?? With our low dollar it is already expensive for us to vacation in the US.

Oh well at least your gas is cheaper!! We are currently around $1.14 per litre.
